Mayor Churence Rogers

MNL Small Towns Director and Tidy Towns Advisory Committee Chair

2010 is shaping up to be another banner year for MNL and in particular the Tidy Towns program.  We are pleased to have Mayor Churence Rogers, MNL Small Towns Director chair both the Environment Committee and the Tidy Towns Advisory Committee.  We expect Mayor Rogers to bring many great ideas to his new role and the Advisory Committee is excited to work with him.  Mayor Rogers has a significant Tidy Towns background.  While Mayor of Harbour Breton in 1997, he was the driving force in their Community Enhancement Committee and their subsequent Tidy Towns win.

MNL has many initiatives that we work on continuously throughout the year for the benefit of our members and the province as a whole, non of these programs can survive without support from sponsors.  Tidy Towns in particular has been fortunate to receive major financial support from the Department of Municipal Affairs.  This year the MMSB and Johnson Insurance Inc. also became Tidy Towns sponsors and we are delighted to have them recognize the value of this program.  Sponsorships like these enable judges to travel and evaluate participating communities.  Without their financial support it would be impossible to achieve our mandate of delivering a provincial competition of integrity. We sincerely thank them for their contributions and hope to continue working them in the future.

The standard of past competitions has been exceptionally high and it is with excitement and a sense of responsibility that MNL is looking forward to continuing our working relationship with the Advisory Committee, The Department of Municipal Affairs and MMSB to cultivate the program in 2010.
