RE: Challenge to all Mayors – Walk to Fight Arthritis
On Sunday, June 10th The Arthritis Society will be holding its 3rd Annual Walk to Fight Arthritis in Paradise. As Mayor of the Town of Paradise I am challenging all Mayors, Councils and communities in Newfoundland and Labrador to either hold your own walk on June 10th or to join me here in Paradise for this event.
The Walk to Fight Arthritis seeks to raise awareness of and support the fight against arthritis, a leading cause of disability in Canada. Donations collected by participants fund leading research and essential programs that support the nearly 4.5 million Canadians who live with arthritis, a number that is growing rapidly and expected to reach more than 7 million by 2031. In fact, arthritis is not just a normal part of aging. Sixty per cent of those with arthritis are below age 65. Over the past 60 years, The Arthritis Society has established itself as a leader in the fight against arthritis by helping people to live well while creating a future without arthritis.
Registration for the event is open online or in person that day beginning at 9:30am at the Rotary Paradise Youth Community Centre at 68 McNamara Drive in Paradise. The walk starts at 11:00am with a 1km and 5km option. There will be a race reception to follow. This is a family and pet friendly event which will include a kids party bus, magician, mascot race, face painting, games, snacks and much more!
Please join us so we can all come together and help fight this disease. I look forward to hearing from each of you!
Mayor, Town of Paradise
